Mission

By supporting community connections, local capacity, and innovation to grow, harvest, process, and store food resources (including agricultural products, fish, and wild foods), the Bella Foodshed Alliance will support a resilient, self-reliant food system that feeds generations of valley residents healthy, nourishing food.

Governance

The Bella Coola Foodshed Alliance is a registered non-profit society run by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors.

The Directors are local community members who are working together to increase food security and food sovereignty within the region. They aim to achieve this vision through organizing community events, workshops, networking, increasing local food infrastructure and managing the Bella Coola Farmers' Market.

The BCFA operates on the unceded, sovereign territory of the Nuxalk people who govern their land with reverence, since millennia. Many of our society’s practices, including our organizational structure, the seeds we plant, the trees we harvest from, the ways we educate, and our methods of growing food, came to these lands through colonization and capitalism. We endeavour to hold this understanding in our interactions and engagements with the Nuxalkmc and their land.
