Learn more about Seed Libraries

Take part in a Citizen Seed Trial (CST) with FarmFolk CityFolk. Farm Folk City Folk are doing some great work with seed saving. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about seeds, plant breeding and sustainable food systems.

Landrace Gardening is way to save seeds and not have the worry of maintaining isolation distances to prevent cross contamination. This is a great way to get seeds to adapt to our local climate and maintain genetic diversity. While we won’t put seeds saved from this type of gardening in our seed library, we will accept donations of seeds saved this way and share them in the community.

No matter what methods you use, the most important thing is to SAVE SEEDS!!

Fruit Tree Care

The fruit trees in the Bella Coola Valley are a valuable asset to our food system and food security. As such, fruit tree care and stewardship are an integral part of ensuring abundant harvests of healthy fruit while reducing bear conflicts.

Lifecycles Fruit Tree Project has great information on caring for your fruit trees.

Bella Coola Tourism offers 50% off electric fencing to protect your trees from hungry bears.

Check out WildSafe BC’s section on Fruit Trees for tips on reducing bear activity around your fruit trees.
